Ingredients

  • 🍚 Urad Dal (split black lentils) – 1 cup
  • 🧅 Onion – finely chopped (optional)
  • 🌿 Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • 🌶️ Green chilies – 1-2, finely chopped
  • 🫚 Ginger – 1/2 inch, grated
  • 🧂 Salt – to taste
  • 💧 Water – for soaking and grinding
  • 🛢️ Oil – for deep frying

Instructions

  • 💧 Soak Urad Dal for 4-5 hours. Grind to a smooth, fluffy batter.
  • 🧅 Add chopped onions, curry leaves, green chilies, ginger, and salt to the batter. Mix well.
  • 🔥 Heat oil in a deep pan. Wet your hand, take a small portion of batter, make a hole in the center (donut shape).
  • 🛢️ Gently slide the vada into the hot oil and deep fry until golden brown on both sides.
  • 🍽️ Serve hot with chutney and sambar.
