Ingredients
- 🐖 Pork belly – 1.5 lbs, skin on
- 🍥 Buns – 6 steamed buns
- 🧅 Onion – 1 medium, sliced
- 🧄 Garlic – 4 cloves, minced
- 🌿 Ginger – 1 inch piece, sliced
- 🍶 Soy sauce – 1/2 cup
- 🍬 Sugar – 2 tablespoons
- ⭐ Star anise – 2
- 🥬 Pickled mustard greens - for serving
Instructions
- 🔥 Sear pork belly until golden brown on all sides.
- 🥘 In a pot, combine pork belly with onion, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sugar, and star anise. Add water to cover.
- ⏳ Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours, or until pork is very tender.
- 🔪 Remove pork and slice into thick pieces. Reserve braising liquid.
- 🍥 Steam buns and fill with pork, a spoonful of braising liquid, and pickled mustard greens.
