Ingredients

  • 🍚 Rice – 1 cup
  • 🌱 Lentils (Dal) – 1/2 cup
  • 🧅 Onion – 1 medium, chopped
  • 🍅 Tomato – 2 medium, chopped
  • 🌶️ Green chilies – 2, slit
  • 🌿 Curry leaves – a few
  • 🥄 Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • 🥄 Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • 💧 Cooking oil – 2 tbsp
  • 🧂 Salt – to taste

Instructions

  • 🍚 Cook rice and lentils separately until soft.
  • 🔥 Heat oil in a pot, add mustard seeds, and let them splutter.
  • 🧅 Add onions, green chilies, and curry leaves; sauté until onions turn golden.
  • 🍅 Add tomatoes and turmeric powder; cook until tomatoes are soft.
  • 🥘 Combine the cooked rice and lentils with the tomato mixture, add salt, and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Serve hot.
