Thatte podi idli

Ingredients

  • 2 cups idli batter (fermented)
  • Thatte idli moulds/plates 🫓
  • Idli podi (gunpowder) 🌶️
  • Ghee or oil 🧈
  • Water for steaming 💧

Instructions

  • Grease the thatte idli moulds with ghee or oil. 🧈
  • Pour the idli batter into the greased moulds. Make sure you leave some space at the top. 🥣
  • Steam the idlis in a steamer or pressure cooker without the whistle for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. ⏲️
  • Once steamed, let the idlis cool slightly before removing them from the moulds. 🧊
  • Generously sprinkle idli podi on top of each idli. 🌶️
  • Drizzle some ghee or oil over the podi. 🧈
  • Serve hot with chutney or sambar. 🍲
