Ingredients

  • 🥩 Ground meat – 2 lbs (beef, pork, or veal)
  • 🧅 Onion – 1 large, chopped
  • 🥕 Carrots – 2 medium, chopped
  • 🌿 Celery – 2 stalks, chopped
  • 🍅 Tomato paste – 2 tbsp
  • 🥫 Canned tomatoes – 28 oz, crushed
  • 🍷 Red wine – 1 cup
  • 🧄 Garlic – 4 cloves, minced
  • 🌿 Fresh herbs – (bay leaf, thyme, rosemary)
  • 🥛 Milk or cream – 1/2 cup (optional)
  • 🧀 Parmesan cheese – for serving

Instructions

  • 🔥 Brown the ground meat in a large pot or Dutch oven. Drain excess fat.
  • 🧅 Add onion, carrots, and celery to the pot and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  • 🧄 Stir in garlic and tomato paste, cooking for another minute. Deglaze with red wine, scraping up any browned bits.
  • 🍅 Add crushed tomatoes, herbs, and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 3 hours, or until the sauce has thickened and flavors have melded.
  • 🥛 Stir in milk or cream (optional) during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Serve over pasta with Parmesan cheese.
