Ingredients
- 🥛 Milk – 1 cup, lukewarm
- 🌾 Flour – 3 cups, all-purpose
- 🍬 Sugar – 1/4 cup
- 🧈 Butter – 1/4 cup, melted
- 🥚 Eggs – 2 large
- 🍋 Lemon zest – 1 tsp
- 🌱 Yeast – 2 1/4 tsp, active dry
- 🛢️ Oil – for frying
- 🍩 Filling – pastry cream, Nutella, or jam
- ✨ Powdered sugar – for dusting
Instructions
- 🌱 Activate yeast in lukewarm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 mins.
- 🥣 In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, lemon zest, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and eggs. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- ⏳ Knead the dough for 5-7 mins until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled.
- 🔥 Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out circles using a cookie cutter.
- 🛢️ Fry in hot oil until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Once cooled, fill with your choice of filling and dust with powdered sugar. Enjoy! ✨
