Za'atar Scones

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 🍚
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder 🥄
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 🧂
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed 🧈
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream 🥛
  • 2 tablespoons za'atar spice blend 🌿
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for brushing) 🥛

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 📃
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. 🥣
  • Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 🔪
  • Stir in the za'atar. 🌿
  • Pour in the heavy cream and mix until just combined. Do not overmix. 🥛
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat into a 1-inch thick round. 🖐️
  • Use a biscuit cutter or a knife to cut out 8 scones. 🔪
  • Place scones on the prepared baking sheet. 🍪
  • Brush the tops of the scones with milk. 🥛
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown. 🔥
