Ingredients

  • 🌽 Maize flour (makki atta) – 1 cup
  • 💧 Warm water – as needed
  • 🌿 Green leafy vegetable (spinach/methi) – chopped (optional)
  • 🌶️ Green chili – finely chopped (optional)
  • 🧂 Salt – to taste
  • 🧈 Ghee or butter – for cooking

Instructions

  • 🥣 In a bowl, mix maize flour, salt, chopped greens (if using), and green chili (if using).
  • 💧 Gradually add warm water and knead into a soft dough.
  • ⏲️ Let the dough rest for 5-10 minutes.
  • 🔥 Heat a griddle or tawa.
  • 🖐️ Take a portion of the dough, flatten it with your hands or using a rolling pin between two sheets of plastic wrap into a thick roti.
  • 🍳 Carefully transfer the roti onto the hot griddle and cook on medium heat until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
  • 🧈 Apply ghee or butter while cooking.
  • ♨️ Serve hot with your favorite side dish.
