Ingredients
- 1 bottle (750ml) red wine 🍷
- 1/2 cup aquavit or vodka 🍶 (optional)
- 1/2 cup brandy 🥃 (optional)
- 1 cup sugar 🍚
- 1 orange 🍊, peel and juice
- 1 lemon 🍋, peel
- 1 cinnamon stick 🪵
- 6-8 whole cloves 🌿
- 10-12 cardamom pods 🌰, lightly crushed
- 1 inch piece of ginger 🫚, sliced
- 1/2 cup raisins 🍇
- 1/2 cup blanched almonds 🌰
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine red wine, aquavit (or vodka), and brandy (if using). 🔥
- Add sugar, orange peel and juice, lemon peel, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and ginger. 🍋🍊
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil! ♨️
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours, to allow the flavors to meld. ⏳
- Strain the gløgg through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the spices and fruit peels. 🥄
- Add raisins and almonds to the strained gløgg. 🌰🍇
- Serve warm in mugs or heatproof glasses. ☕ Enjoy! 🎉
