Ingredients
- 1 roll of shortcrust pastry 🥧
- 1 liter of whole milk 🥛
- 200g of sugar 🍚
- 4 large eggs 🥚
- 80g of cornstarch (maizena) 🌽
- 1 vanilla bean (or 1 tsp vanilla extract) 🌿
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). 🔥
- Line a 24cm tart tin with the shortcrust pastry. 🔪
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and vanilla bean (if using) over medium heat. 🌡️
- In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and cornstarch until smooth. 🥣
- Remove the vanilla bean (if using). Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. 🥛➡️🥣
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the cream thickens and comes to a boil. 🥄
- Remove from heat and pour the cream into the prepared pastry case. 🍮
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is set but still slightly wobbly. ⏲️
- Let cool completely before serving. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. ❄️
