Cheddar Jalapeño Challah

Ingredients
- 4 cups bread flour 🌾
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast 🍄
- 1 teaspoon sugar 🍬
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 🧂
- 1 1/2 cups warm water 💧
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil 🛢️
- 2 large eggs 🥚
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 🧀
- 2-3 jalapeños, seeded and finely chopped 🌶️
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash) 🥚
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. 🥣
- Add warm water, oil, and eggs. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. 🥄
- Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. ✨
- In the last minute of kneading, add cheddar cheese and jalapeños. 🧀🌶️
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 1/2-2 hours, or until doubled. ⏳
- Punch down the dough and divide into 6 equal pieces. 👊
- Roll each piece into a long strand. 🐍
- Braid the strands together. 🥨
- Place the braided challah on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. 📄
- Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. ⏰
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). 🔥
- Brush the challah with beaten egg. 🥚
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. 🍞
- Let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving. 冷却
