Ingredients

  • 🍝 Bucatini pasta – 1 pound
  • 🐟 Sardines – 1 pound, fresh or canned
  • 🧅 Onion – 1 medium, chopped
  • 🧄 Garlic – 2 cloves, minced
  • 🍅 Tomato paste – 2 tablespoons
  • 🌿 Fresh fennel – chopped
  • 🍇 Raisins – 1/4 cup
  • 🌲 Pine nuts – 1/4 cup
  • 🍋 Lemon – 1, zest and juice
  • 🌶️ Red pepper flakes – to taste
  • 🫒 Olive oil – for cooking
  • 🧂 Salt and pepper – to taste

Instructions

  • 🔥 Sauté onions and garlic in olive oil until softened.
  • 🐟 Add sardines, tomato paste, fennel, raisins, pine nuts, lemon zest, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 10 minutes.
  • 🍝 Cook bucatini pasta according to package directions. Reserve some pasta water before draining.
  • 🥘 Add cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to combine. Add pasta water as needed to create a smooth sauce.
  • 🍋 Finish with lemon juice and serve immediately. Garnish with extra fennel and pine nuts.
